Patrick Ewing was inducted into the Hall of Fame and I’m proud.. why wouldn’t I be one of the greatest players of all time A man that was KG before KG was KG. An Olympian and a NCCA Champion. He’s a Warrior and Deserves to be congratulated for his efforts on the floor every night against some of the best to ever play the game.
Patrick Ewing and OJ Simpson are some of my earliest memories I remember sitting on my grandfathers lap watching the finals in 1994 and seeing a car chase on TV. Years later I realized what I had.. witnessed hard work, determination and a fall from grace.
2 of those came from Patrick Ewing. Later basketball memories are of Allan Houston, Spreewell and Camby with Ewing rooting them on from the bench and later the 04-05 Knicks and on.
But throughout my life if you asked me who was my favorite player I didn’t go with the popular opinion and say MJ( everyone ) or Bird ( too easy ) . I said Patrick Ewing not only was he an amazing talent he had less around him than everyone else and worked hard and elevated them. He bled he cried he limped to the bench and then came back in with a monster dunk time and time again.
And I’ve seen millions of pieces of footage but the I really regret not seeing the games live. Not going through the heart break. I mean damn I felt Heartbroken when the 33 win Knick team lost games imagine being eliminated from the playoffs or even worse game 7. I would probably lock myself in my room half of summer.
But it’s what I long for it’s what I will always long for living to see a Knicks championship during my time. It’s what Patrick Ewing did and no matter how much bumps and torn ligaments he had he still Jammed it on you or J’d you right in the eye. He played Hard and with no remorse or caution for himself.
I love Patrick Ewing and so does the city of New York. You deserve your own statue outside of Madison Square Garden.
Thanks for the Memories Patrick. I hope your son makes the team and we get to hear 33 from George Town once again
